Terms of Service
Last updated: April 12, 2026
1. Agreement
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern access to and use of the websites, APIs, and related services offered under the “Sift” name (collectively, the “Service”). By creating an account, using the API, or otherwise accessing the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you use the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization.
2. The Service
The Service provides language detection and related HTTP APIs. Features, endpoints, and behavior may change as the product evolves. Documentation at /docs describes the current interface but is not a warranty of any specific uptime, latency, or result quality.
3. Accounts and access
Access may require signing in through a supported identity provider (for example Discord). You must provide accurate information and keep credentials secure. The operator may restrict registration or use (including allowlists) to protect the Service and other users. You are responsible for activity that occurs under your account.
4. API keys and workspaces
API authentication may use workspace-issued keys. Keys are secret credentials. You must not share them publicly or embed them in untrusted client-side code. You are responsible for requests made with your keys until they are revoked. The operator may suspend or revoke access if keys are compromised or misused.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Violate applicable law or third-party rights.
- Attempt to probe, disrupt, or overload the Service (including denial-of-service attacks).
- Reverse engineer the Service except where applicable law forbids this restriction.
- Use the Service to distribute malware, harass others, or process illegal content.
- Circumvent technical limits, authentication, or security controls.
The operator may investigate and remove content or suspend access for conduct that risks the Service or other users.
6. Customer content
You retain rights to text and data you submit to the API. You grant the operator a limited license to host, process, transmit, and display that content only as needed to provide the Service and as described in the Privacy Policy. You represent that you have the rights needed to submit such content.
7. Third-party services
The Service may rely on infrastructure or software operated by third parties (for example hosting, database, or remote language-inference components for certain API versions). Those providers are not responsible for these Terms; their terms may apply to you where relevant.
8. Plans, fees, and changes
Some features may be free and others paid or limited. Pricing information, if published, is part of the commercial offer for those plans. The operator may modify the Service or these Terms; material changes will be indicated by updating the “Last updated” date or other reasonable notice when practical. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance unless applicable law requires otherwise.
9. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE OPERATOR DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. LANGUAGE DETECTION MAY BE INCORRECT; DO NOT RELY ON IT FOR SAFETY- CRITICAL OR LEGAL DECISIONS WITHOUT INDEPENDENT VERIFICATION.
10. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE OPERATOR WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR BUSINESS. THE OPERATOR’S TOTAL LIABILITY FOR CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID THE OPERATOR FOR THE SERVICE IN THE THREE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR (B) FIFTY U.S. DOLLARS (USD $50), IF YOU HAVE NOT PAID ANYTHING.
11. Indemnity
You will defend and indemnify the operator against claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from your use of the Service, your content, or your breach of these Terms, to the extent permitted by law.
12. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. The operator may suspend or terminate access for violations of these Terms, risk to the Service, or other legitimate reasons, with or without notice where allowed by law. Provisions that by their nature should survive (including disclaimers, limitations, and indemnity) will survive termination.
13. General
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the operator resides, excluding conflict- of-law rules, unless mandatory consumer protections in your country say otherwise. If a provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in effect. Failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.
14. Contact
Questions about these Terms: contact the operator.
